wastewater

Wastewater is the water that's been used in homes, schools, businesses, public amenities and industries. Around 70% of Greater Sydney’s wastewater is made inside the home, and Sydney currently produces enough to fill Sydney Harbour every year.

Most water utilities treat wastewater to a level where it can be pumped out to a creek, river or ocean. But in Altogether communities, every drop of water is harvested because treated right, it can become an important resource.

We use primary, secondary and tertiary water treatments to remove waste and then recycle the purified water back into the community for use in the laundry, garden and other green sites, and for air cooling.* We call this our Integrated Water Cycle Management (IWCM) system and it’s revolutionising the way communities live with and use water.

Using every part of the water cycle adds to the total water balance and further protects the sustainability and ecology of local communities — making all of our futures more resilient.

*Altogether is a licensed water and wastewater utility authorised under the Water Industry Competition Act 2006 (NSW).
