When a distress call went out on Facebook for someone to rescue Ooshie Thor from the watery depths after an accidental flushing at a home in The Gables in Sydney, Altogether’s Garth Hugo sprang into action!

“It’s not every day that you get to help out an Avenger, let alone the God of Thunder,” said Garth, who is a Technical Operations Lead within Altogether’s Water team at The Gables.

The Gables is a visionary sustainable community located in Box Hill in Sydney’s North West. Altogether provides both wastewater and recycled water services to the development, which also includes a bustling mixed use town centre, educational facilities, lush recreational areas, large lake and local recycled water centre.

“Luckily for Thor, he was in an Altogether Community home, which means that the toilet waste goes into a holding tank before being processed and recycled. So, I was able to glove up and fish Thor out and thoroughly disinfect him, before returning him to his owner ready for their next crime-fighting adventures,” said Garth.

“I’m really grateful to Garth Hugo and the team at Altogether for going above and beyond to retrieve my son’s Ooshie,” said Katherine Agius mother of one and The Gables resident.

“Garth spent time explaining to me and my son how the recycled system at my home works as was finding Thor. My son is so happy having his favourite toy returned to him and won’t be putting things down the toilet that don’t belong there,” Katherine said.

Darren Wharton, Altogether’s Executive Manager - Sustainable Utility Services, says “Being part of a vibrant community like The Gables means being a good neighbour and helping out where we can.  I’m happy that we were able to reunite Thor with his owner and thank Garth for his commitment to supporting our customers and the communities that we work in.”
