Our Local Water Centres (LWC) play a key role in supporting many communities across Australia. Water is becoming an increasingly limited resource, and by making the most out of every drop of water at our advanced facilities, our communities can use recycled water and stormwater to save up to 70% of drinking water. In addition to our water solutions, we are committed to promoting water education, raising awareness, and fostering collaboration for a sustainable future.
Altogether Group’s Local Water Centres (LWC) have played a key role in expanding knowledge of sustainable water practices and fostering global collaboration through Water Tours and Educational Programs. These initiatives provide a unique opportunity for stakeholders, including students and international delegates, to engage with innovative water management solutions.
Learn what happens inside our water centres, the impact they have on local communities, the importance of water education, and how to organise an educational event for your community members and local schools.
In our water centres, we transform wastewater into recycled water that is ready to be used following a 7-step process. Chemical storage tanks, air compressors, and ultraviolet treatment systems work together to ensure the safety and quality of our recycled water so that it’s ready to be used again as part of a circular economy for sustainable water. From the initial wastewater screening, anaerobic and aerobic processing is performed before the water is chemically treated, filtered, disinfected and chlorinated, readying the water to go back into homes.
In our water centre tours, you’ll have the opportunity to have a look at our distribution pumps and the advanced technologies we employ to monitor water quality, including temperature, pH, and chlorine levels before it is safe to be used again for toilet flushing, garden watering, car washing, irrigation, and more. We also conducted a fun comparison between our treated water and regular tap water to see if you could tell the difference!
We have 8 water centres across the country, but the Central Park Water Centre stands out as one of the closest to the city centre with its unique features. Part of a $2 billion development renowned for its advanced recycling and sustainability features, it produces 1,000 kilolitres of recycled water daily, enough to fill three Olympic-sized swimming pools each week, setting a benchmark for sustainable urban water management. The site’s green infrastructure, including Australia’s tallest vertical garden and high Green Star ratings, highlights its commitment to environmental stewardship.
As leaders in the utility industry, we believe water education is key in paving the way for more sustainable communities, and through our Academy, we support the development of strata managers, body corporates and developers to educate their local communities.
However, it is through our water centre tours that we hope to make an impact on creative young minds. At three of our communities across Australia, we regularly host groups to collaborate on educational initiatives and develop innovative sustainable solutions to address water challenges. Over the past year, LWC tours have welcomed students from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and international delegates from Cambodia, India, and Indonesia, offering them the opportunity to observe Altogether’s innovative recycled water systems in practice.
By leveraging the accessible infrastructure at Central Park, we were able to provide an engaging platform for learning and exchanging insights on sustainable engineering and advanced recycled water systems, fostering a culture of collaboration and global impact.
These programs create meaningful opportunities for future engineers, decision-makers, and international partners to deepen their understanding of practical and scalable water solutions. By supporting education and knowledge-sharing across borders, we are able to strengthen our relationships with key stakeholders and drive innovation, reinforcing our role as a leader in sustainable water practices. The positive outcomes of these exchanges not only contribute to societal progress but also strengthen Altogether’s standing as a forward-thinking and community-driven company.
We regularly invite community members and schools to come behind the scenes of our water centres to learn more about our sustainable solutions through water education, where we teach about water filtration, wastewater treatment and water recycling at our house and land communities. For residents who want to learn more about recycled water in their community, how it’s processed, and how safe it is, we offer visits to see our facilities in action. We also offer visits and excursions for schools to teach students the importance of water conservation and are able to accommodate groups of all sizes.
