During the workshop, the team got to work in the kitchen transforming surplus food, into restaurant quality meals, to be delivered directly to disadvantaged local communities.
The OzHarvest chefs shared their unique stories and inspired our team with the power of positivity, instilling the value of food and why we should not waste it.
As well as bonding over the preparation of delicious food going to a great cause, the team learned useful cooking tips, and zero-waste cooking skills from how to chop an onion properly, to cooking 'root to stem'.
The team prepared Thai chicken veggie curry, potato soup, stir fried veggies, cucumber pickles, plus apple crumble and blueberry & peach crumble - yum!
After preparing the food, the team helped with packing, labeling and storing, ready to deliver to local charities and people in need.
OzHarvest's mission and values couldn’t be more aligned to ours and it was such a great opportunity to engage, learn, keep it local and help create a better tomorrow!
The event was held at Rocklea Markets in Brisbane, and attended by Daniel Hobbs, Erica Jones, Ellie-Rose Beattie, Melenna Allcroft, Cara Gilbert, Jayde Crampton, Shannon Walsh, Douglas Kerr and Inga McClelland.
Feedback from the team:
“It was a great experience to contribute to those in need. It was very informative, fun, and humbling to give back”
“We wish we could do this on a more regular basis. It was a valuable and fulfilling experience”
“When is the next opportunity to get involved again?!”
In the spirit of giving to those who need it, Altogether has donated 1,000 meals to Australians doing it tough this Christmas, through Oz Harvest.
We encourage you to read about what they do and find out how you can get involved, if you are able.
