meet Erica

For Erica, the best way to get in the zone is a solid workout. Whether it’s a getting a few kilometres out in the fresh air or whipping up the in-office boxing bag, keeping physically and mentally fit is what keeps Erica at peak performance.

“I love the chaos,” said Erica, the Customer Advocate Team Leader at Altogether Group.

“It’s a very busy department. My team are responsible for all the incoming phone calls from all of our customers, processing registrations and all of the ‘move outs’ and meter reads,” she said.

Erica was recently nominated for an Internal Academy Award at Altogether Group, a celebration of her leadership, commitment to Altogether values and going above and beyond with her initiatives at work. The initiatives showcased were Better Tomorrow and Making the Difficult Seem Simple, two of the five Altogether values.

Making the Difficult Seem Simple is a challenging thing to do, but Erica is so humble in her grounded approach to leadership.

“We’re fast-paced and we’re a fun team!” said Erica. “I think we’re also quite a caring team. We don’t get a lot of time to socialise because we’re always on the phones, but we make the time to stay connected.”

You can tell Erica is immensely proud of her team. The team has to deal with every customer query from “I don’t know how to find my bill” to “Why is consumption so high?” and everything in between. It’s an incredibly high influx of calls that are processed every day, but the team knows how to stay cool under pressure and make the job look much easier than it is.

Erica has also introduced separate recycling for soft plastics, coffee pods, bread tags, bottle lids and blister packs (the kind Panadol comes in). Not only is she encouraging to separate out these sneaky plastics, but she is hand delivering them to a number of not-for-profit organisations which are reusing the materials for amazing needs.

The broader uses for plastics that are non-recyclable and would otherwise end up in landfill are genuinely amazing. The bottle lids? These go to Ocean Crusaders who re-use the plastics to save marine life. Your office bread tags? They go to making wheelchairs or prosthetics for young children.“Those values sit quite strongly with me and how I conduct myself at home with my children. So, I like that the company values adhere to what I maintain in my own life,” said Erica.

It’s with no shortage of pride that she explains how her son creates his own recycling habits in his workplace. But beyond recycling, Erica truly believes all the Altogether Group values have a place in the home.

Being neighbourly, looking out for other people, being aware of what’s going on around you and seeing if people need help. These are Erica’s values for home that she feels resonate in the workplace as well.

“It means that I'm able to gently encourage people at work who may not look at things in that light. I bring a little bit more of myself to work and it's supported at work because they see value in that aspect of who I am as well.”
